Atkinson's Office AdministratorThe office administrator is the staff member responsible for communicating in one way or another. She answers the phones, directs the mail, keeps track of the church calendar, creates layout for the weekly Order of Service and monthly News and Views, compiles reports and tracks membership data, and takes care of a bazillion little details weekly. Pat Lichen was raised in Stow, Ohio, and came west in 1978 to "save the whales." She worked for Greenpeace for six years, during which time she boarded whaling boats in both Peru and Japan and chained herself to their harpoon guns to prevent them from being fired. She left a promising career as a pirate to attend the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA. After graduation, Pat worked as a naturalist at Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument and in the Columbia River Gorge. She wrote three books describing the plants, animals, and phenomena of the Pacific Northwest ("Passionate Slugs & Hollywood Frogs," "River-Walking Songbirds & Singing Coyotes," and "Brittle Stars and Mudbugs"), and is perpetually writing a novel featuring environmental do-gooders. She has one daughter, Hallie, who wanted to attend church--which is why Pat came to Atkinson, thinking she might be willing to bring her daughter "once in a while." Delighted and impressed by the community they found, and its values, messages, and meaningful rituals, Hallie and Pat both found a spiritual home (to Pat's continued amazement).
